Ålesund company Cyan Energy revolutionizes electric vehicle charging

The idea for the charging station originates from a land-based drilling rig concept called Megatrack, developed by Petro Well Services, of which Cyan Energy is a part. The rig is designed to operate far from the power grid by being self-sufficient with energy from solar and wind. The rig will produce hydrogen from natural gas and store carbon, enabling the development of an emission-free gas field.

A challenge with the drilling rig concept was the production of large amounts of blue hydrogen without customers nearby. This led to the establishment of Cyan Energy in 2021 to capitalize on the high growth in electrification nationally and globally, and to meet the increasing power consumption.

A new sustainable solution
Cyan Energy has developed a patented charging solution that enables fast charging without burdening the power grid. Using its own power sources such as wind, solar, and hydrogen, as well as battery capacity, the facility can deliver promised capacity without capacity sharing.

The system can deliver large loads, at least 6MW, without capacity problems on the power grid. This solution is equally relevant offshore as for high-capacity charging of vehicles and vessels.

Positive market reception
Cyan Energy’s charging concept has been positively received, especially in the heavy vehicle and truck market, as well as among the most modern car models that can accept high capacity.

The solution is simple, efficient, competitively priced, and offers 100 percent renewable energy at all times. For oil and gas installations, the system can take off peak loads and ensure a smooth and efficient power supply, reducing consumption and costs.

Great market potential

The electric vehicle market is large in Norway and still growing. In other European countries, the market is growing even faster, especially for trucks, buses, and heavy transport. Cyan Energy hopes to capture 15 percent of the European market.

Globally, the growth in the electric vehicle market is explosive, except in Africa. The power support market is in its infancy and will develop rapidly to reduce costs and consumption.
